Catch report 20 April 08
Becks
Kerry Woollard had a first ever carp session with great results. In total, she had 16 fish up to 14lb 2oz with 9 of those fish at double figures. Using a bait boat to the island with precision accuracy was the key for the capture of these fish which were caught on halibut boilies. The backs has also seen a few double figure bream come out to spicy shrimp and prawn boilies. Also, Craig Welling had a fantastic weekend with 28 fish with 2 bream at 11lb 8oz and Carp going up to 18lb 4oz.
Carp
The carp lake has been doing very well recently with regular angler Joe Polfrey having a good session last weekend with 12 fish up to 22lb. local carpenter Pete Gent enjoyed his first session of year with 4 fish up to 24lb off the disabled swims. Anglers have also enjoyed action on the surface with fish up to 22lb being caught on dog biscuits. Mr Bidwell had a good session as well with 4 fish the biggest being 25lb. These were caught on dynamite baits the source. There has been lots of fish caught over this past week with the weather being very good so my advice is to pick a good day and possibly use a fish boilies with a PVA bag filled with pellets.
Winters
The winters has seen lots of anglers recently with a fair few fish being caught. Stuart Phillips spent 2 nights on the lake and had fish up to 25lb on sweetcorn and he also used maggots on a clip. Mr Burns had a lovely common of 28lb on Monday. He fished with maggots with a PVA bag. Mr Cox also got a piece of the action when he landed a 23lb mirror on a meaty marine boilie. Ben Wilson also had a very good fish of 28lb common on tutti-frutti pop-up and a crab boilie on a snowman rig.
Canal
Matches have been won recently with 44lb, 43lb and 61lb 4oz. anglers tending to fish the pole at about 10 metres using maggots for constant fish action of using pellet to get away from the perch and target the larger fish. Big bags of bream seem to be the bonus fish at the moment with them going up to 8lb. When matches are not on. Pleasure anglers are having bags of fish up to 100lb with bream, carp, perch and roach being caught. If you do want to bag up, I would advise pole cupping and fishing in a tight area.
Blunham
The Blunham Lake is doing very well as usual with anglers having up to 10 carp in a day. Fish up to mid doubles have been caught but again, the average stamp is around 6 pound. Fish are being caught on pellet, maggots, Sweetcorn and peperami. If fishing for smaller fish, try fishing light line on a size 18 hook but also have the gear to play and land a carp if one is hooked. Lots of fish are still being caught in the margins so casting 40 yards is not necessary.
Damsel Lake
The Damsel Lake is still fishing very well with anglers using hares ears, buzzers, cat’s whisker and montana damsel nymphs are working well close in. Dry flies are also having some success in overcast conditions. Recent record catches include two fish over 10lb.
Congratulations to Tony Moore for winning April's Troutmaster Fishoff Competition. Good luck in the final later this year.
